Kon Tiki 2024 is on the doorstep. It happens 17 to 19 May 2024 at Arrowe Park. This year’s theme is SHIP WRECKED

Registrations will open online at MIDNIGHT (23:59) 14 MARCH 2024.

There are a few changes which everyone needs to take notice of.

Costs for the Kon Tiki 2024 event are: -

Entry costs :

-        Team entry (Full entry + 20 round entry badges + 1 Pennant for 1st Camp site) – R2 325.00

-        2nd Camp Site + 20 round entry badges – R1 995.00

-        Bank details : will be included on the registration form

 -       Badge costs : (No event badge, no entry to Kon Tiki)

Round Entry Badges will be available from the  Parkmore and Tshwane  Scouts Shops from end March 2024.

-        Scout / Parent /Family  Kon Tiki round entry event Badge @R50.00 sold in bundles of 5, available for purchase prior to the event

-        Cub Kon Tiki round entry event Badge @ R50.00, sold in bundles of 5, (note Cub entry badges are smaller in size to accommodate placement on uniform. However, if cubs present the larger entry badge they will be permitted entry and participation in the Beaver Challenge events)

-        Event Badge if bought at Arrowe Park gate R60.00 (we highly recommend badges are bought beforehand)

-        Day passes will be an event round entry badge

-        Cub Beaver Challenge : Please refer separate information sheet

Please note that the 2nd site cost is just that. It is designed for Groups that just cannot fit on one site but should not be used for other than camping purposes as it limits sites available for other Groups who may not be able to attend the event if all sites are booked!

Please visit http://kontiki.scouting.co.za for all the forms and documentation. Please visit here often to make sure you have the latest information. Please get your registration in early as the closing date is 17 April 2024. This year we are expecting a full Kon Tiki event, so space is limited : You have been warned!

Camp Site allocation this year will differ from last year. Each registration form will allow for selecting 3 preferred camp sites. Only once the registration close on the 17 April, will the registration team apply some BP spirit to finalise your camp site allocation and publish them. Their decision is final.

Beaver Challenge will be run this year by the Pack Scouters for all cub ages. We encourage all cubs to come along to witness the Kon Tiki spirit. The Beaver Challenge will run this year from 14:00 to 16:00. Please register your Beaver Challenge activity with Kelly Bernhardt kelly.bernhardt@scouts.org.za .

Remember the Kon Tiki event badges can be worn for 12 months from the date of the event OR until another Regional Event Badge is available for those attending such an event.

I want to ask that all badges are purchased BEFORE the event to limit congestion at the gate and costs. It is a lot cheaper buying your badges before the event from the Parkmore and the Tshwane Scouts Shops . As a group, please buy extra badges for drivers and parents who want to visit for the day, it would really help in making sure we have enough badges on the day. Badges will be available from end March 2024

Day passes will be an event round entry badge. Please have the badge handy at the gate. The event badge will allow for multiple entries throughout the weekend. A day pass, is valid for ONE PERSON only and will be available to buy at the Scout Shop @ R50.00 each before the event (recommended) or at the gate @ R60.00

Please remember that there is LIMITED PARKING available in Arrowe Park itself. We encourage a “drop off and go”. Scouters and truck parking is available on the EAST and WEST of the Scout grounds. Should this be full, parking on the verge area off Atlas Road (West of Arrowe Park). More Parking info will be provided closer to the time. Please also make use of the “Parking Etiquette” notice on each vehicles dash board when parking.

You are invited to address any further questions or queries to The Camp Chief at the mail address below, should you have any other concerns you would like addressed.

 Tools

Alan Ford has arranged this tool as a safety measure to ensure that the raft being built will have sufficient buoyancy provided for by barrels, before being launched. This will aid you and also ensure that the raft is sufficiently manoeuvrable should you need to be towed by a rescue vessel.

If you have any questions or would like Alan to review it, please e-mail it to alanford@global.co.za when you have populated the final version or bring it to KonTiki on a memory stick, Alan will go through it at the event.
